Drew Goddard to Direct ‘The Matrix 5’ for Warner Bros.

Drew Goddard, best known for creating Netflix’s Daredevil, directing The Cabin in the Woods, and writing The Martian, is attached to write, produce, and direct an untitled Matrix 5, for Warner Bros.

Per Variety, this will be the first installment not written and directed by one of the Wachowskis, although Lana Wachowski is attached as an executive producer. No casting has been announced yet, but let’s hope Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are coming back otherwise what’s the point of all this?

Plot details also haven’t been revealed; however, Warner Bros. Motion Pictures president of production Jesse Ehrman did share in the announcement that Goddard has come up with an idea worth pursuing.

“Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters,” Ehrman said in a statement. “The entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery is thrilled for Drew to be making this new Matrix film, adding his vision to the cinematic canon the Wachowskis’ spent a quarter of a century building here at the studio.”

No release date for The Matrix 5 has been announced at this time.
