Universal has released an official trailer for Firestarter, a new adaptation of the popular Stephen King classic as well as a remake of the 1984 film. Let’s take a look.
Peacock is once again using a horror movie to try and boost its subscriptions. Will it work? I’m doubtful, but I did think that was a pretty good trailer.
Firestarter is one of the few works of King that I’m not overly familiar with. I’ll definitely check out the 1984 film before seeing the new one.
The cast looks great (particularly Zac Efron and Ryan Kiera Armstrong), so maybe this will drive people to both the theaters and Peacock. Lord knows they need the buzz.
Plot Synopsis:
In a new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic thriller from the producers of The Invisible Man, a girl with extraordinary pyrokinetic powers fights to protect her family and herself from sinister forces that seek to capture and control her.
For more than a decade, parents Andy (Zac Efron) and Vicky (Sydney Lemmon) have been on the run, desperate to hide their daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) from a shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of mass destruction.
Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her power, which is triggered by anger or pain. But as Charlie turns 11, the fire becomes harder and harder to control. After an incident reveals the family’s location, a mysterious operative (Michael Greyeyes) is deployed to hunt down the family and seize Charlie once and for all. Charlie has other plans.
Firestarter is in theaters and streaming only on Peacock beginning May 13, 2022.
