Well this comes as a bit of a pleasant surprise this morning. Variety is reporting that Gabriel Luna will be suiting back up as Ghost Rider in a new Marvel show on Hulu. I really liked the introduction to the character and Luna‘s portrayal on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. At the time it really did feel like a backdoor pilot for a new spin-off show. But nothing ever came of it, which is kind of a shame. Although it is a bummer to read that sources are reporting “that this will be a completely new iteration of the character in no way connected to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. storyline.” It just seems weird to retcon any of what happened previously. It shouldn’t really have much bearing on the new show if you ask me.
Here’s Gabriel Luna‘s Instagram post.
Plot Synopsis:
Ghost Rider, also known as Robbie Reyes, is consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. He lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields.
I guess this is a good way for Disney to keep some of the more adult Marvel shows off their new steaming service, especially now that they are majority stakeholders in Hulu now.
Variety is also reporting that in addition to Ghost Rider, Hulu has also ordered a live-action Marvel series Helstrom. Both shows join the upcoming animated Hulu-Marvel shows based on Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Monkey, and Tigra and Dazzler. While the live-action Marvel series Runaways, goes into its third season.
