A new installment in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise is currently in the works.

The untitled fourth I Know What You Did Last Summer movie will follow the same approach that 2022’s Scream used to great success, introducing a new younger cast while bringing back the original stars in supporting roles. Chase Sui Wonders, part of the movie’s fresh blood, recently opened up about filming the slasher sequel to People at SXSW.

“It’s really fun, and the cast is incredible,” she said. “We filmed partially in Australia and now we’re finishing up in L.A.”

Wonders added that she had an “incredible” and “surreal” experience being on set with franchise stars Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, who are reprising their roles from the first two films as Ray Bronson and Julie James, respectively. She called them “absolute legends and live up to all my expectations,” adding that she had to “act with my contacts out, ‘cause I couldn’t focus while seeing them act in front of me.”

The actor also praised director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, calling her a “genius.” Robinson is directing the legacy sequel from a screenplay she co-wrote with Sam Lansky after an initial draft by Leah McKendrick.

Also starring in the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel are Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, and Gabbriette.

The movie is scheduled to be released by Sony on July 18, 2025.
