Lady Gaga in Early Talks for ‘Joker: Folie à deux’; Sequel Reportedly a Musical

Lady Gaga is getting ready to fall madly in love.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gaga is in early talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming sequel to 2019’s Joker, which is reportedly titled Joker: Folie à deux. There’s no official confirmation on who she would play, but the word around the streets is that she’d play Harley Quinn.

In DC Comics, Quinn has an on-again/off-again abusive relationship with the Joker. She was his former psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum but fell deeply in love with him that she chose to turn to a life of crime and become his sidekick. The character was created for Batman: The Animated Series and proved so popular that she was adapted into other forms of media.

If Gaga does sign on for Joker 2, she would play Quinn. Currently, Margot Robbie portrays Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe, in which the Joker films are not set in.

Todd Phillips returns to direct Joker 2 and wrote the script with Joker co-writer Scott Silver. Sources indicate that the upcoming sequel will also be a musical. I have no clue how they’d make that work, but it definitely has me way more interested in this project than I’d like to be.

No release date has been announced for Joker: Folie à deux at this time.
