Marvel Studios‘ Kevin Feige saved the best for last during Marvel’s Disney Investor Day presentation. Feige announced that they are developing a reboot of Fantastic Four for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After 20th Century Fox butchered Marvel’s “First Family” twice (although the 2000s films are adorably cheesy), Marvel Studios will have a crack at actually bringing a faithful adaptation of the characters to life.
Feige also announced that Jon Watts, who is already part of the MCU family thanks to directing both of Spider-Man’s solo outings, will direct the reboot. That’s got to suck for Ant-Man director Peyton Reed who mentioned previously being interested in directing a F4 film. There’s always the sequel, Peyton!
It will be interesting to see what Feige does different with the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/Thing. Also, who are they going to cast? I did a F4 FanCast a long time ago, but maybe it’s time for an update.
But hey, at least with the Fantastic Four on their way that means we may finally see the Thing fight the Hulk in live-action! Dreams do come true!
What do you think of Watts directing Fantastic Four? Are you surprised Marvel is rebooting the Fantastic Four before X-Men? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
