Hayden Christensen Joins Cast of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Series

Hayden Christensen has been given a second chance.

During Lucasfilm‘s Disney Investor Day presentation, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that Christensen “will return in the role of Darth Vader” in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The prequel series will begin “10 years after the dramatic events of Revenge of the Sith,” Kennedy explained. It will deal with the aftermath of that series and how Obi-Wan “faced his greatest defeat: the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice Anakin Skywalker, turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”

Deborah Chow is directing this series, following the work she did on season one of The Mandalorian. And prepare for some serious action, as Kennedy promised the show will feature “the rematch of the century” between Obi-Wan and Vader.

I guess we were wrong to assume Christensen would only be back for flashbacks to the Clone Wars. It looks like Vader and Obi-Wan will cross paths again. That will certainly be enough to get some fans on board. Let’s just hope Lucasfilm gets James Earl Jones to voice Vader, too.

Production on Obi-Wan Kenobi begins in March of 2021. I’d expect the series to premiere in early 2022 on Disney+.

What do you think of Christensen returning for another shot as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader? Do you think this is a good decision? Tell us why down in the comments!
