Oscar Isaac is ‘Moon Knight’ For Disney+ Marvel Series

Variety reports that Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) is in talks to star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ series Moon Knight. Now this is casting I can get behind.

The series will tell the story of “Marc Spector, an elite soldier and mercenary who decides to fight crime after he becomes the human avatar of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon.” Marvel head Kevin Feige previously referred to the series as “action-adventure” which would be a welcome change to the typical superhero shenanigans.

Although Marvel had no comment (typical), Isaac being cast as Moon Knight would be another solid addition to their growing universe. Marvel knows how to cast their superheroes, but I’m especially interested in knowing the terms of Isaac’s potential contract. Last year, after Star Wars Episode IX hit theaters, it seemed like the young stars were keen on pursuing independent projects not tied to pre-existing properties.

Does that mean that Moon Knight will only last one season before jumping into team-up movies? Or will Marvel give Isaac the freedom to pursue other projects in-between stints as Moon Knight? It would be a shame to tie Isaac up in the MCU for a decade.

Jeremy Slater (Umbrella Academy, Fantastic Four) is serving as the show’s writer and showrunner. Moon Knight does not have a release date set yet, but it should hit Disney+ in late 2021 or early 2022.
