New Details for Paul Rudd’s ‘Ghostbusters 2020’ Character Revealed

Director Jason Reitman was speaking with ET Online for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, and he dropped an interesting tidbit about Paul Rudd’s character:

[Paul Rudd plays] a seismologist who’s come to this small town because they’ve been having mysterious earthquakes.”

He added that Rudd’s character will be teaching summer school, which lines up with what we heard back in June when he was originally cast.

However, this is the first we are hearing that Ghostbusters 2020 might be set outside of New York City, the location where all three previous films in the franchise were set. While this may come as a surprise to the fans, I think this is a great idea. The Ghostbusters reboot in 2016 already showed modern audiences ghosts in New York. Reitman needs to take the franchise in a new direction, and by placing the action and story in a small town, and centering it on a family (played by Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace), he’s already accomplishing that.

I’m getting a Tremors vibe already, and that’s not a bad thing. The more I hear about this sequel, the more I get excited.

Ghostbusters 2020 hits theaters July 10, 2020.
