The extremely low-budget horror film Paranormal Activity exploded on to the horror scene back in 2007 when Paramount Pictures distributed the film with a ton of hype behind it. They are hoping to resurrect the franchise back to its box office success with a new entry in the Spring of 2012.
The original was shot on a micro-budget of $15,000 and was able to gross close to $200 million worldwide, ensuring it was the most profitable film ever made, based on return investment. It utilized the found footage concept, which was popularized in 1999 by The Blair Witch Project, to great effect. That film was also a major success, having been shot on a similarly tiny budget.
After receiving rave reviews from audiences and critics, a sequel was greenlit in 2010 and was another box office hit. The series would go on to produce four more sequels with the last being in 2015 with The Ghost Dimension and Paramount Pictures is hoping for more of the same success with a seventh entry into the franchise. As of now, no further details have been released.
Wonder if we are getting a reboot or a continuation of the original storyline? What are your thoughts on another Paranormal Activity? Were you a fan of the franchise?
