Nia DaCosta to Direct ‘Captain Marvel’ Sequel

Nia DaCosta has been tapped to direct the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel, Deadline reports.

DaCosta replaces Anna Bodn and Ryan Fleck, who directed the first film centered on the popular Marvel Comics superhero. Marvel had been meeting with candidates for the past couple of months and it looks like DaCosta was on the top of their wish list.

DaCosta is behind the highly anticipated, but constantly delayed Candyman rebootquel, so directing a future installment in the ever expanding MCU is a good next step for her.

Megan McDonnell wrote the script for Captain Marvel 2, with Brie Larson returning to star. The sequel will hit theaters on July 8, 2022.

What are your thoughts on the news? Do you think DaCosta will be able to make a sequel that is superior to the first film?
