‘Nick Fury’ Series in the Works at Disney+ with Samuel L. Jackson

Variety just dropped some pretty big Marvel Cinematic Universe news.

The site states that Samuel L. Jackson will star in a Disney+ series centered on his Marvel character Nick Fury. Plot details are of course being kept under wraps, but multiple sources say Kyle Bradstreet is attached to write and executive produce. Disney or Jackson have yet to comment or confirm the news.

We last saw Nick Fury in a post-credits scene for Spider-Man: Far From Home where it was revealed that he was in space onboard a Skrull ship. It was also revealed that Talos (who was introduced in Captain Marvel) has been masquerading as Fury on Earth for an unknown amount of time.

It’s possible that the Fury solo series will fill in some narrative gaps between the events of Age of Ultron (2015) and Endgame/Far From Home (both 2019). There’s a four-year gap after S.H.I.E.L.D. fell and his last meeting with the Avengers where we don’t really know what Fury was up to. It’s teased that he may have a hand in the creation of S.W.O.R.D. (seen briefly in the WandaVision trailer), but it’s possible he’s in space for another reason.

Hopefully this means we may see other S.H.I.E.L.D. adjacent characters like Maria Hill, Erik Selvig, or even Hawkeye show up. Heck, I’d even be down for some Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. characters to be reintroduced. This would be the perfect opportunity to have Quake, Melinda May, etc. appear. You could gloss over most of their backstory and just set them up for bigger things down the line.

No word yet on which phase of the MCU this meet release under, or if it will have bigger implications for the wider MCU. We’ll keep you posted.

Thoughts on a Nick Fury series? Too little, too late? Or are you excited to see SLJ kick some ass?
