‘Ready or Not’ Directors to Helm ‘Scream’ Reboot

THR is reporting that Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have signed on to direct a new Scream film. The two directed last year’s cult horror film Ready or Not (which got nominated for a 2020 Best Actress SAWard).

Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are part of the horror filmmaking group Radio Silence, alongside Chad Villela. Villela will act as a producer on Scream.

Spyglass Media, who ended up with the rights to Scream after the Weinstein Co. bankruptcy sale, is behind the project. The original 1996 slasher film, directed by Wes Craven, was a huge hit when it premiered. It ended up grossing $100 million domestically which is an achievement few films reach today. The killer, GhostFace, has since gone on to become a popular Halloween costume and horror icon.

There are not many details so far regarding the upcoming Scream film. It is unclear whether it will be a reboot or continuation of the franchise. We’ll keep you updated as more information is revealed.
