Robert Pattinson is Our Next Batman

The Bat Signal shines for one man: Robert Pattinson.

Deadline has confirmed that Warner Bros. has cast Pattinson as the next incarnation of Bruce Wayne/Batman and is currently in final negotiations. Pattinson will first appear as the caped crusader in Matt Reeves’ upcoming 2021 film The Batman.

Deadline additionally reports that Pattinson is signed on for a trilogy of Batman films, though I want to say that just means his contract is for three films as Batman and not that Reeves has already laid out plans for a trilogy.

Pattinson beat out Nicholas Hoult (already a superhero in the form of X-Men’s Beast) for the role. While these two are both great actors, I am glad Pattinson got the role. He looks like what I envision a young Bruce Wayne to look like.

My only wish is that The Batman is still set in the DCEU and we get to see Jeremy Irons and J.K. Simmons come back as Alfred and Gordon. These two actors were just not given enough to do in the DCEU so far, and it would be a shame to get less than two minutes of a comic-accurate Commissioner Gordon. I’d also love to see how Pattinson’s Batman one day leads into Ben Affleck’s older, grizzled take on the Dark Knight.

The Batman is expected to hit theaters June 25, 2021.

What are your thoughts on the casting now that it’s confirmed?
