Derrick Borte‘s psychological thriller Unhinged, about a road rage incident gone especially wrong is to be announced at the Cannes Film Festival.
Unhinged takes an ordinary, everyday incident to its most terrifying conclusion in telling the story of a mother who leans on her horn at the wrong time, to the wrong guy reports Variety.
German-born Borte is no novice at directing films centred around the darker side of the highway, helming 2018’s indy crime thriller American Dreamer which dealt with a HAIL driver-turned-kidnapper.
Russell Crowe‘s last notable performance that drew on his madman persona was in 2017’s monster mash The Mummy starring Tom Cruise and while he’s managed to keep an air of quality about his work, it’s been many years since the halcyon days of A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator or even Aronofsky’s Noah.
While he’ll be returning to his Australian roots (actually, he’s a New Zealander, but we adopt all successful Kiwis as our own. This is known.) with The True History of the Kelly Gang and last year’s Joel Edgerton-helmed Boy Erased, it will be interesting to see him take a central lead in a realistic horror-themed setting like Unhinged.
What do you guys think? Can Crowe pull out a great performance from this premise?
