Scott Derrickson announced via Twitter that he and Marvel have parted ways on the Doctor Strange sequel.
Derrickson cites “creative differences” as the reason for the divorce. Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness is slated to be the first horror movie in the MCU.
Derrickson is no stranger to the genre having directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister. A lot of fans were psyched to see this interpretation of the Sorcerer Supreme.
Doctor Strange hit theaters in 2016 with mostly positive reviews raving about the mind bending visuals and Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance as the titular character.
Derrickson also stated in his tweet that he will stay on as an executive producer for the Marvel project. Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness is slated to come out in 2021 with direct ties to WandaVision, the Disney+ series.
How much of Scott Derrickson’s story will be left in the film? Who would you want to step in and fill his shoes? Would you want Scott Derrickson to follow James Gunn’s footsteps and direct a DC flick next? There seems to be some uncertainty in the Multiverse and only time will tell how it unfolds.
