‘Star Trek: Picard’ Teaser Shows the Admiral’s Quiet Retirement?

The first look teaser for CBS/Amazon Prime/Bell Media‘s upcoming Star Trek spinoff show has surfaced, promising to reveal a nice bit of future-history for the second greatest Federation officer who ever lived (citation needed -Ed.).

This seems to revel in the beauty of Picard’s canon winery and describes the slower pace of life after all his post-Enterprise adventures; I can’t help but wonder exactly what kind of show we’re in for. Will it be told as a series of flashbacks (hopefully these would be filmed and not just excerpts from the very aged visual look of the TV show) or do they set up an actual adventure for Old Man Picard, who I don’t doubt will command the same kind of gravitas and screen presence that he always had.

Or maybe it will just literally be about wine making. I admit I’d probably tune in just for that.

No plot details have been released at this time other than it being a follow up to The Next Generation and describe what would take place in Picard’s post-Federation officer life.

The series is directed in part by Hanelle M. Culpepper (Counterpart, Mayans M.C.) and Jonathan Frakes (yes, Riker himself, who’s been keeping busy directing episodes of Star Trek: Discovery as well as The Orville). Star Trek: Picard will also star Santiago Cabrera (Salvation), Isa Briones (American Crime Story), Alison Pill (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) and Harry Treadaway (Mr. Mercedes).

No release dates have been confirmed other than it will air on multiple platforms sometime later this year.

What do you think of this prospect? It’s interesting that there’s no real hints as to what the show will be like or about other than it being set in the Star Trek universe.
