‘The Good Liar’ Trailer: Let The Games Begin

Warner Bros. has just released a trailer for The Good Liar, a thriller based on the best-selling novel of the same name, starring Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen.

I just love a good con. As if McKellen and Mirren together for the first time wasn’t enough of a sell (for me at least), we got Jim Carter of Downton Abbey fame playing McKellen’s ally. It looks like McKellen’s character is a seasoned pro, but that Mirren’s Betty McLeish has a few tricks up her sleeve. I’ll be checking this out for sure, and then probably picking up the novel its based off of to see how the two differ.

Plot Synopsis:

Bill Condon, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Gods and Monsters,” directed and produced the film from a screenplay by Jeffrey Hatcher (“Mr. Holmes”), based on the widely acclaimed novel by Nicholas Searle. Career con artist Roy Courtnay (McKellen) can hardly believe his luck when he meets well-to-do widow Betty McLeish (Mirren) online. As Betty opens her home and life to him, Roy is surprised to find himself caring about her, turning what should be a cut-and-dry swindle into the most treacherous tightrope walk of his life.

The Good Liar hits theaters November 15, 2019.
