‘The One and Only Ivan’ Trailer: Disney+ Uses a Gorilla to Pull at Our Heartstrings

Disney+ has released an official trailer for The One and Only Ivan, based on Katherine Applegate’s bestselling book of the same name. Originally slated for a theatrical release, it will now hit the streaming service next month. Let’s take a look and see if it’ll be worth your time.

Wow, this is a lot better than expected. It might actually end up being the best Disney+ Original Movie to hit the service (unless Hamilton counts because than Hamilton is the best). The cast for this looks amazing. I’m always down to watch a movie if Bryan Cranston is involved. Plus Sam Rockwell, Angelina Jolie, and Danny DeVito voicing animals? Count me in!

Plot Synopsis:

Disney’s “The One and Only Ivan” is an unforgettable tale about the beauty of friendship, the power of visualization and the significance of the place one calls home. Ivan is a 400-pound silverback gorilla who shares a communal habitat in a suburban shopping mall with Stella the elephant, Bob the dog, and various other animals. He has few memories of the jungle where he was captured, but when a baby elephant named Ruby arrives, it touches something deep within him. Ruby is recently separated from her family in the wild, which causes him to question his life, where he comes from and where he ultimately wants to be.

The One and Only Ivan begins streaming August 14, 2020 on Disney+.
