‘Tangled’ Live-Action Remake Wraps Production, New BTS Look Shared

Rapunzel behind Flynn Rider, who has crossed swords with Maximus in Disney's Tangled.

The live-action remake of Tangled just crossed a major production milestone.

In a post shared on Instagram, Michael Montemayor, who co-wrote the remake with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, wrote: “That’s a wrap on Tangled!! Truly a dream come true getting to see this movie come to life! I’ve been writing movies since I was 19, so to be able to get to work with Disney this year (on four projects!!) has been a miracle in the making. More to come soon!”

The Instagram post included several behind-the-scenes images. The best of the lot has to be the “actor” for Rapunzel’s pet chameleon Pascal, and by “actor” I mean a green ball-like shape with a jar lid glued to it and a smiley face drawn on the inside of the lid. Putting that blockbuster budget to good use, eh, Disney!

A live-action Tangled was first reported in 2020, but wasn’t confirmed by Disney until 2024, at which time the studio hired Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) to direct and Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder) to write. It’s unclear when Montemayor joined the production as a co-writer.

Tangled Cast Includes Some Familiar Names

Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim are leading the Tangled remake as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively. Croft is a rising Australian actor who is best known for playing Raven in the HBO Max/DC series Titans. Younger Disney fans will recognize Manheim from his various appearances on the Disney Channel, including as a lead player in the Zombies franchise.

Kathryn Hahn is playing Mother Gothel, the villainous figure who kidnapped Rapunzel to use her hair to keep her young. For that dastardly deed, she was ranked #52 on our 100 Greatest Disney Villains list. Hahn is best known for her roles in countless comedies like Anchorman, Step Brothers, and We’re the Millers. She’s also Agatha Harkness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Tangled cast also includes Caitríona Balfe (Outlander) as Queen Arianna, Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons) as King Frederic, Patrick and Hugo McPherson as the Stabbington Brothers, and Diego Luna (Andor) as Hawthorne, a new character created for the remake.

Tangled will have over a year in post-production, as the remake is not scheduled to hit theaters until March 31, 2028.
