Will Ferrell & Ryan Reynolds Developing Musical Reimagining of ‘A Christmas Carol’

THR has learned that Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds are developing a “musical reimagining” of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol.

Sean Anders & John Morris (Daddy’s Home) are writing and directing the project, and Ferrell and Reynolds will star, though it is unknown who they will be playing. My best bet is that Ferrell will be playing Scrooge, and I could easily see Reynolds just play all three Ghosts.

Multiple studios are currently bidding on the film, which should come as a shock to no one considering the talent involved. A Christmas Carol has to be one of the most adapted works of all time. Hollywood loves getting their greedy little mitts on a new Scrooge screenplay. This “musical reimagining” will forgo the more traditional adaptation in favor of something along the lines of the 1988 comedy Scrooged, or 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol.

I’m not entirely sure we need another version of A Christmas Carol, but I like Ferrell and Reynolds enough to be slightly interested. Ferrell already has Elf on his Christmas classic resume, while I’m not entirely sure what Reynolds did before Deadpool. A lot of romantic comedies if memory serves correct.

Reynolds is currently also working on a new adaption of Clue, and a third Deadpool. This is the first project I’ve heard Ferrell’s name attached to since Holmes & Watson bombed last year.

We’ll probably keep you updated on this project as more information becomes available.

Are you guys interested in another Christmas Carol adaptation? Think Ferrell and Reynolds will bring anything new to the table?
