Andy Muschietti has signed on to direct the upcoming DC Studios film, The Brave and the Bold.
Per Variety, Muschietti will helm the upcoming superhero feature, which will be based on Grant Morrison’s Batman comic book run. The Brave and the Bold will be set in the DC Universe, an upcoming shared universe that serves as the successor to the DC Extended Universe.
“We saw The Flash; even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan,” DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran told Variety of Muschietti. “It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame.”
The DC heads continued, “So, when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes. Barbara signed on to produce with us and we were on our way. They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU.”
Muschietti’s sister and creative partner Barbara Muschietti will produce the project via their label Double Dream, alongside Gunn and Safran. A screenwriter is not attached to The Brave and the Bold at this time.
The Brave and the Bold will introduce Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, to the DCU. It will also reportedly feature other members of the Bat Family. This film will exist separately from Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.
No release date has been set for The Brave and the Bold at this time.
