Ryan Gosling, who? Matt Damon is in talks to join the cast of Daniels‘ untitled Everything Everywhere All at Once follow-up movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, after briefly considering Jack Black, Daniels have landed on Damon for the major supporting role that Gosling was initially set to play.
Gosling had to depart due to scheduling issues, which were brought on largely by the actor himself, as he had asked Daniels to revise the script to give his character a larger role. Unfortunately, since the movie received a California tax credit, it needed to begin filming by the end of summer/early fall, meaning there was no time to make the necessary script changes and meet the production start deadline.
Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) have been working on their new movie for the past three years. It reportedly involves global warming, time travel, and possibly superheroes. There are also two timelines: one set in the 1980s and one set in the present day. The protagonists of the story are teens (at least in the 1980s-set timeline), with Damon playing the father of one of the teens.
The untitled event film will be Daniels’ first film since Everything Everywhere All at Once took the world by storm four years ago. It was A24’s first movie to ever cross $100 million worldwide, as well as the first independent film to achieve the box office milestone during the pandemic.
At the 95th Academy Awards, Everything Everywhere All at Once won seven out of the eleven awards it was nominated for, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for lead star Michelle Yeoh. More importantly, it won eight awards at the 4th ScreenAge Wasteland Awards.
The untitled Daniels movie is scheduled to hit theaters on November 19, 2027.
