Daveed Diggs in Talks to Play Sebastian in Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’

The Hollywood Report believes that Daveed Diggs is about to go under the sea.

Diggs, one of the stars of Hamilton, is in final negotiations to join Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, an update of the 1989 animated film that started the Disney Renaissance.

Rob Marshall will direct a cast that already includes Halle Bailey as Ariel, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder.

If Diggs signs on to the production, he will play the crab Sebastian, who is Triton’s advisor, and sings the iconic song “Under the Sea.”

The cast for The Little Mermaid is shaping up nicely. I’m looking forward to seeing who they cast as Prince Eric. Hopefully, Rob Marshall will try and bring something new to the story, along the lines of The Jungle Book and Aladdin, instead of going for a more straight-forward remake like Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King.

What do you think? Does Diggs have the chops to make a good Sebastian?
