Fans have waited decades for an official Ghostbusters III and they are finally getting it later this year. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is set to pick up three decades after the events of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II.
Jason Reitman, son of Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, is helming the upcoming threequel and the original cast is back in supporting roles. The first trailer was released late last year and teased a sequel that looked like it was going to be worth the wait.
Finn Wolfhard, one of the stars of the Afterlife, spoke with NME recently about the film. Wolfhard said that the film took “a really, really faithful approach to the series” that should make fans of the original duology happy. However, he also stated that new fans should find something to enjoy themselves. He said that “first and foremost, Ghostbusters is about family and the relationships that these people have made.”
Wolfhard also said Afterlife is “really funny” which is surprising given that the first trailer felt very dramatic and serious. However, would it be a Ghostbusters film if there wasn’t comedy involved?
I’m not a Ghostbusters fan at all, but Afterlife has me really excited for the franchise. I’m huge into the idea of legacies and passing the mantle, so this sequel definitely has me invested.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is slated to hit theaters July 10, 2020.
Are you excited for the upcoming sequel? Do you think it will have been worth the wait?
