It’s Star Wars Month at ScreenAge Wasteland! Expect a bunch of Star Wars themed craziness from everyone.
I had a conversation with my brother Jeff today about what I might draw for Monster Sketch Monday this month, and there are just too many options. The Star Wars universe is FULL of great creature designs and I’m just spoiled for choice. There are five Mondays in May this year, but that’s nowhere near enough! I could do a year, probably.
ANYWAY. We’ll start off with the moment that really sold my 8 year old self on the whole setting. I mean, spaceships, lasers, Darth freakin’ Vader, droids and more had occurred by the time Luke and Obi-Wan head into that ‘wretched hive of scum and villainy’ known as Mos Eisley, but the cantina…
Yeah, watching it now there are some dodgy or stiff costumes and creatures, but 8 year old me bought it all, hook, line and sinker. It was a fully realized other universe, populated with an endless array of sentient beings both good and bad. I was in, I was in forever at that point.
I wanted to include at least half a dozen more creatures – that little bat guy, the demon guy, the yeti-like guy with the tube for a mouth… but I ran out of time (as usual), so here are just a few highlights. Some of the aliens that stuck out the most to me (Greedo for obvious reasons) at the time.
What about you? What did you think of the cantina scene when you first saw it? And what were your favorite aliens in the scene?
