Peter Jackson Turned Down ‘Aquaman’ Twice

In an interview with Empire, Peter Jackson revealed that he was offered the chance to direct Aquaman not once, but twice!

Here’s what Jackson said on the exchange between former Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara:

“He said, ‘Are you a fan of Aquaman?’ I said, ‘No.’ Six months later: ‘Peter, are you a fan of Aquaman?’ I said, ’No, Kevin, I already told you this’,”

Jackson elaborated to Empire that…

“I’m not a superhero guy. I read Tintin… Look, films are hard. I only want to make something that I have a deep passion for. … I don’t really anticipate making another theatrical film for a year or two.”

This is a tantalizing “What If?” to chew on. I’m sure fans of Jackson’s work on Lord of the Rings are already discussing what his take on Atlantis and Aquaman could have been like had he chosen to work on the project. That being said, James Wan did an incredible job with Aquaman (even if it felt like he shoehorned a whole trilogy into one film).

Since Jackson brought up the topic of Tintin, can I just say that his next project better be that damn Tintin sequel we’ve been waiting on for eight years! Seriously, Jackson should have been working on that instead of The Hobbit films.

Would you have rather seen Aquaman directed by Peter Jackson? Do you think we’ll ever see Tintin 2?
