‘Scream 6’ Hits Theaters in 2023; Courtney Cox First Confirmed Castmember

Paramount and Spyglass are moving full steam ahead with a sixth instalment in the Scream franchise. The two companies have just announced that Scream 6 will officially hit theaters on March 31, 2023.

No plot details are available at this time, but we do know that at least one Scream franchise mainstay will be returning.

Courtney Cox recently revealed on a recent episode of the Just for Variety podcast that she would be reprising her role of Gale Weathers in the upcoming sequel. Here’s what she said:

“I got the script yesterday. I haven’t read it yet, I just got it… I’m excited to read it, and I know they’re gonna start filming I think in June, in Canada. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say anything. Let me tell you the killer!”

Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will return to direct. Also back are James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick as screenwriters. Creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of Radio Silence, Chad Villella, will executive produce.

Scream (a.k.a. Scream 5) opened in theaters this past January where it made $80 million domestically and $140 million worldwide at the box office. A sixth film in the popular slasher franchise was quickly greenlit in February.

We’ll keep you posted on who else might be returning for Scream 6 when they’re announced.
