Shawn Levy will leave the Upside Down and Marvel Cinematic Universe behind to venture into a galaxy far, far away.
According to Deadline, the director is in talks to direct a mystery Star Wars film for Lucasfilm. The news comes a few weeks after reports emerged that Damon Lindelof had co-written a Star Wars film with Justin Britt-Gibson.
Levy’s film is the fifth major Star Wars film project in development at Lucasfilm after Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, Rian Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy, the standalone film Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is producing, Taika Waititi’s film that he will co-write and direct, and Lindelof’s film that will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Deadline warns fans to not expect Levy’s Star Wars film anytime soon. The director will only focus on this one after he wraps up his commitments on Deadpool 3 for Marvel Studios, which doesn’t begin filming until mid-2023. He will also reportedly direct at least two episodes of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, also beginning production in 2023.
We’ll keep you posted as more information on Levy’s Star Wars becomes available.
