Shea Whigham Joins ‘Mission: Impossible’ Sequels

Director Christopher McQuarrie continues to assemble an absolutely stellar cast for the upcoming back-to-back sequels Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8. In recent months, Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff have boarded the films. Now Shea Whigham joins them.

McQuarrie announced the casting on his official Twitter:

If McQuarrie announces next that Jeremy Renner will be returning for the sequels we’re going to soon have a mini-MCU reunion. Whigham and Atwell previously worked together on the ABC series Agent Carter, so fingers crossed these two actors will share some scenes in the upcoming films.

Whigham has never exactly been an A-list star, but he’s a reliable actor that always delivers a good performance. You might remember seeing him as Elias Thompson on Boardwalk Empire, or in films like Fast & Furious, Joker and Vice.

The Mission: Impossible sequels hit theaters July 23, 2021 and August 5, 2022.

What do you think of Whigham’s casting? Do you think he will be friend or foe to Ethan Hunt?
