Movie: Zootopia (2016)
Scene: The DMV
THE PLAYERS
Director: Byron Howard and Rich Moore
Characters: Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin), Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), Flash ( Raymond S. Persi)
THE SETUP
Judy Hopps is doing her best to be the best police officer she can be but has constant roadblocks placed in her way while not being taken seriously because of her size. After spending time on parking duty, Judy is ready for some real action and she just had a real case fall into her lap. A worried wife comes into the station stating her husband is missing. Judy jumps at the chance to help solve this case and Chief Bogo allows her to work it but with one catch. Judy has 48 hours to solve the case or she must resign from the force. She takes the case and sets out with a mission to find this lost otter.
During her investigation, she comes across a con-artist in fox Nick Wilde. After some back and forth, Judy is able to get Nick on some tax evasion and gets him to help her out. Once he finally complies, he leads her to DMV with the once piece of evidence she has. Time is running out but this should help break the case in no time or so she thought.
THAT SCENE
THE EXECUTION
I can not tell you how hard I laughed at this scene the first time I saw it and it only gets funnier with every watch. Anyone who has been to the DMV understands the humor here and the frustration of Judy. The fact that all the workers at the DMV are sloths already made it funny but the fact that they stick with the gimmick through he typing and the joke bit just adds to the hilarity. We have all been poor Judy at the DMV at least once and we feel her pain. The final slap on the back is how excited she is to finally get the info she needed just to realize it is now night time and that wasted a lot of her 48-hour window. I love Zootopia and this scene on of those for grown-ups too that is actually well done.
What do you think of the DMV sloth scene? Did it bring back painful memories of going to your local DMV as well?
