The star of Aladdin Marwan Kenzari is set to join Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne in the production of The Old Guard, a story of a group of immortal soldiers who trek through history and into the 21st century.
Variety reports that Gina Prince-Bythewood (Beyond the Lights, Cloak & Dagger) is directing the film which is based on an Image comic by Greg Rucka and artist Leandro Fernandez.
Plot Synopsis:
Andromache of Scythia AKA “Andy” and her comrades ply their trade for those who can find and afford their services. But in the 21st century, immortality is a hard secret to keep, and when you live long enough, you learn that there are many fates worse than death.
The Old Guard is produced by Skydance, while Marc Evans and Theron and her Denver and Delilah partners Beth Kono and AJ Dix. Stan Wlodkowski and Rucka are executive producing.
Kenzari is hot off his role as Jafar in the latest Disney blockbuster while Theron has been announced to star in an Atomic Blonde sequel as well as being in talks for a Fast & Furious spinoff flick.
There’s no word on a release date as yet, so stay tuned for more details as we have ’em. Expect a Netflix release for this film.
