Dwayne Johnson Reveals ‘Black Adam’ Production Will Begin Next July

Shazam! was a pleasant surprise to come out of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) this year. It was comedic, lighthearted, and definitely the most MCU film we will see in the DCEU for a while. A sequel to Shazam! is in the works, but before that we have Black Adam to look forward to seeing grace the big screen.

Dwayne Johnson has been attached to the role of Black Adam since 2007, before he confirmed he was set to star as the character in 2014. Since then, the character has gone from being the main antagonist in Shazam! to getting his own solo film. Now after years of development, Johnson took to Twitter to announce that the Black Adam will begin production in July 2020.

Jaume Collet-Serra is attached to direct Black Adam, with a script by Adam Sztykiel. Collet-Serra previously directed Johnson in the upcoming Jungle Cruise. There’s no word yet on if Zachary Levi’s Shazam will appear in the movie. My guess is that Black Adam‘s post-credits scene will tease a Black Adam/Shazam crossover.

Black Adam is just one of the many projects in development for DC Films. Also in development are The Batman, Wonder Woman 1984, Supergirl, and Aquaman 2.

Are you excited to see Johnson as Black Adam? When do you think he will meet Levi’s Shazam?
