Netflix Orders Elvis Comedy ‘Agent King’ & Anime ‘He-Man’ Continuation

Variety reported that Netflix has ordered an adult animated action comedy series titled Agent King from Priscilla Presley and John Eddie.

Here’s how Netflix described the series: “Elvis Presley trades in his white jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves — all while holding down his day job as the King Of Rock And Roll.”

In a statement, Priscella Presley, the ex-wife of Elvis, said:

“From the time Elvis was a young boy he always dreamed of being the superhero fighting crime and saving the world! Agent King lets him do just that. My co-creator John Eddie and I are so excited to be working with Netflix and Sony Animation on this amazing project and getting the chance to show the world an Elvis they haven’t seen before.”

No other information was released about the series, but we will be sure to keep you posted when a trailer comes online. I, for one, am excited to see what sort of comedy style this series takes. I’m imagining something along the lines of Archer, and that only makes me more excited.

(The title card is pretty sweet, too.)

In other Netflix animation news, Kevin Smith announced a new anime He-Man series at the annual Power-Con convention. But this just won’t be any series, it will take place in the same universe as the classic eighties show and resolve storylines left unfinished.

Here’s what Smith, who will serve as showrunner and executive producer, had to say on Masters of the Universe: Revelation:

“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe. In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

Rob David, the vice president of Mattel TV, added:

Masters of the Universe has been a cultural phenomenon for generations, inspiring fans to discover their own power within. Fans of this franchise have been waiting for the continuation of these characters, and Kevin Smith, as a ‘Masters’ superfan himself, is the perfect champion and partner to expand the canon through a dynamic animated series on Netflix.”

I don’t know anything about Masters of the Universe or He-Man, so I don’t really have an opinion on this project. I’m all for continuations resolving unfinished storylines though, so I’m glad this is happening for the fans. Kevin Smith is someone who can always manage to surprise his audience. I like that he doesn’t cater to the Hollywood norm. I’m interested to see what he brings to this series.

If you could only watch one of these announced series, which would it be: Agent King or Revelation?
