It looks like Disney+ and HBO know when they have a good property on their hands. Both The Mandalorian and Westworld have been renewed for additional seasons.
According to Variety, pre-production has already begun for the third season of The Mandalorian.
Sources state creator Jon Favreau has been busy “writing season 3 for a while”, and that concept art is being created. Also, it is believed that the production design department started working on season 3 this past Monday.
Season 2 is slated to premiere on Disney+ this October. The series is easily the streaming service’s most popular original, so it makes sense that they would want new seasons rolled out annually. I haven’t checked out the show yet, but I will because Baby Yoda!
Meanwhile, over at HBO, the network has renewed Westworld for a fourth season. Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming, made the announcement:
“From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.”
Season 3 is currently airing and will wrap up in the next couple weeks. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the current plan for the show is for it to run for six seasons. So if all goes according to plan we’ll be hanging out with Delos for a while longer. Of course, that is if the series will stop shitting the bed and get back to telling engaging stories like season 1.
What are your thoughts on more Mandalorian and Westworld?
