Doctor Strange Will Appear in ‘Spider-Man 3’; Benedict Cumberbatch Returning

The upcoming Spider-Man sequel is about to get a little strange.

Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his MCU role as Doctor Strange in Spider-Man 3. THR, who reported the news, suggests that Strange will be stepping into the mentor role previously occupied by Tony Stark in Homecoming and Nick Fury & Mysterio in Far From Home.

Doctor Strange and Spider-Man appearing in a team-up film together is something fans have wanted to see since both characters were introduced in the MCU back in 2016. These are two of Marvel’s most famous New York superheroes (alongside the Fantastic Four), and the chance to see them together on screen again after Infinity War will be a treat for fans.

Strange’s appearance also strengthens the rumors that Spider-Man 3 will deal with the multiverse (for real this time). Jamie Foxx was recently added to the cast, returning as Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. There’s no concrete proof he will be playing the same version of Electro, but we know for a fact Doctor Strange 2 will deal with the multiverse.

Scarlet Witch is also set to appear in Doctor Strange’s sequel. Therefore, rumors have been swirling online that WandaVision, Spider-Man 3, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will form a loose trilogy dealing with the creation, fallout, and conclusion of the multiverse.

In addition to Cumberbatch and Foxx, Spider-Man 3 will also star Tom HollandZendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori, and Jacob Batalon. Spider-Man 3 is currently set to hit theaters on December 17, 2021.

What do you think of Doctor Strange appearing in the third Spider-Man movie? Would you just like a Spider-Man film without the rest of the MCU heroes? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
