Recently in an interview with Collider, McG announced that the long awaited TV adaptation of the James Cameron classic action/comedy film True Lies has likely found a home at Disney‘s soon-to-be-streaming channel, Disney+.
McG had this to say:
“Well right now my new thing for television is I’m doing True Lies at Disney+. Which is exciting. I’m writing that one, which is very exciting, because I’m so passionate about that story where you think you know your partner but you don’t.”
Seeing as the True Lies adaptation was under the Fox banner before the now-famous Mouse Takeover (ongoing) it makes sense that it would find a new home alongside other anticipated offerings like Loki, The Mandalorian and the further adventures of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, among others.
That said, the possibility remains that this announcement is not completely concrete, with the news that a planned High Fidelity TV series starring Zoë Kravitz was shifted to Hulu due to content focus issues.
Speaking of minor uncertainties, there’s no definite statement on weather or not the star of the original film Arnold Schwarzenegger will have a role, with McG taking a noncommittal “we’ll see” stance.
No other casting or direction roles have been announced as yet.
McG’s worked on numerous TV shows and features including the well received Charlie’s Angels film franchise and The Babysitter for Netflix; his teen-adventure film Rim of the World is in post production and he’s about to begin filming the pilot for the ABC Studios/Random House mystery drama Triangle starring Mike Vogel.
What do you think of a True Lies TV show, Wasteoids? Does the film have enough meat to make into a series and is McG the guy to bring it to the small screen?
