‘Hawkeye’ Series Adds Florence Pugh, Vera Farmiga & More

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The cast for Hawkeye continues to grow following Hailee Steinfeld‘s casting confirmation.

Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will act as a transition phase retiring most of the Phase 1 heroes and replacing them with newer characters. It looks to be a fascinating couple of years with new heroes like She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel joining established characters like Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, and Loki.

In addition to Hawkeye introducing a second Hawkeye, Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, it will also setup a few other characters who could have a lasting impact on the MCU. Variety reports that Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Zahn McClarnon have all joined the cast of the upcoming Disney+ show in main or supporting roles. They will all be playing new characters.

Farmiga will play Eleanor Bishop, the mother of Kate Bishop; Fee is “Kazi, most likely short for Kazimierz Kazimierczak, known to Marvel fans as the mercenary villain Clown;” Dalton is playing “Jack Duquesne, more than likely a take on the Marvel character Jacques Duquesne or Swordsman;” Cox is “Maya Lopez, the true name of the Marvel character Echo, a deaf Native American who is capable of perfectly copying another person’s movements, making her a formidable fighter;” and McClarnon is playing “William Lopez, likely a take on Maya’s father Willie ‘Crazy Horse’ Lincoln from the comics.”

Additionally, Florence Pugh will be reprising her role of Yelena Belova/Black Widow from the upcoming Black Widow movie. This means that Hawkeye might give Natasha a proper farewell after Endgame glossed over her death. It also means that Black Widow will need to be released before Hawkeye can air. This pandemic has really led to a packed slate for 2021 from Marvel Studios.

Hawkeye is my favorite Marvel character, so I am glad he is finally getting his own solo series. This is a damn fine cast Marvel has assembled to act opposite Jeremy Renner and Steinfeld. I can’t wait to see everyone in action. Fingers crossed this is only the beginning of a multi-season Hawkeye series.

What do you think of the cast for Hawkeye? Do you like that Pugh will be appearing as the next Black Widow?
